After the latest debacle of the splitting of Direct Messaging from the main app, Instagram is now bringing some latest options on its platform to help the users follow specific hashtags along with the profiles and posts that keep on appearing on the main feed.
What Instagram has to say to this?
“Following a hashtag is just like following a friend. To get started, search for a topic you’re interested in or tap on a hashtag from any post. You’ll see relevant hashtags displayed in your search results along with related accounts. When you find a hashtag you like, open the hashtag page and tap on the ‘follow’ button. You’ll begin seeing top posts from that hashtag in your feed and some of the latest stories in your stories bar. You can always unfollow a hashtag at any time.”
An enhanced discovery
Instagram though gave the users free reign to search about content or posts from Explore but with this latest addition, it will gain a new reputation as a discovery engine. This will show the users the relevance of the tags and acknowledge their presence in various communities.
The main difficulty lies in filtering like some popular tags will see numerous posts than others. But, Instagram is creating a new algorithm to select the best among them, considering various factors. Users can choose their likeable feeds by selecting the option of ‘ I don’t like this’ from a drop down.
The addition of hashtags will bring in more communities on the platform to sort out the content and messages. Instagram will also show which hashtag is followed by which profile to learn more about the used tags. Users have the right to hide their hashtag in the following list. Instagram believes that it will surely increase user engagement.
Instagram had also added ‘Posts you may like’ to display the user’s favourable content. These hashtags like in Pinterest are sure to be a help for marketers where they can influence the customers in following their tags which will reduce the burden if searching for them.
