Why Facebook is taking an initiative towards profile picture safety
As per Facebook, though profile picture plays an important role in order to build communities as well as help people to find friends and build a mindful connection, still many of people don’t feel safe while adding a profile picture.
In research, it is found that especially women choose the option of not to share the profile picture as they are very concerned with what might happen to their photos.
Partners of Facebook developed the tools
The tools were developed in association with Indian safety organizations such as Learning Links Foundation, Centre for Social Research, Youth Ki Awaaz and Breakthrough.

The profile picture guard will work in several ways:
- No one can download or share your Facebook profile picture
- No one other than you and your Facebook friends can tag your profile picture.
- The shield signals let other one respect your Facebook Profile pictures.
- No one can send your profile picture in message on Facebook.
- Facebook will prevent others to capture screenshot of the Facebook profile picture and this feature is only available on Android device.
Add designs to the profile pictures
A survey reveals that a profile picture having designs are less likely to be copied by other that’s why you can also add designs to the profile picture to avoid the copying of it.
How Facebook will react for a suspected images
Additionally, if it is suspected that the picture with specific design has been copied or misused then Facebook will determine that it should be removed from the community or not.
Who will create the designs to add Facebook Profile Image
Facebook associated with Jessica Singh who is an illustrator, will create designs by taking inspiration from Indian traditional textile designs Kantha and Bandhani to add to the profile picture.
