Facebook gives authority over face recognition to detect you in photos. In December 2017, Facebook introduced a new setting for people called face recognition(earlier called tag suggestions). The face recognition setting lets anybody to manage to tag even it provides an easy way for a broader set to manage face recognition, such as helping you protect your identity on Facebook.

 

People who currently joined facebook or those who already had a tag suggestion setting will have this setting & receives a notification related to it. The setting controls to suggest tag anyone in video or images will no more available.

People who still have the tag suggestions setting will see a notice in their News Feed today. The notification will consist of information about the new features and options to learn more about how we use face recognition, along with a button to make it on or off. If you currently do not have the face recognition setting and do nothing, then facebook will not use face recognition to recognize you or suggest tags. Moreover, features like Photo Review, which enables you to know when you appear in photos even if you are not tagged, as long as you have permission to see the post based on its privacy setting, will not be triggered. People will still able to manually tag friends, but Facebook won’t suggest you be tagged if you do not have face recognition turned on. You will not receive any notification if you already have the face recognition setting.

Facebook made the steps to update your settings and you can choose to leave your setting off right in the Notification, as prevent to having to go to another screen. The setting will remain off for you until you turn it on.
