Instagram has declared an update to its search functionality that will allow users to search for particular keywords, as opposed to being restricted to hashtags, locations, and profiles. Users could only see results limited to locations, names, user names, and hashtags when searched for something on Instagram. Now, users will be able to click on particular search terms and then Instagram will display you all the posts that have those exact words.
This will indeed make it easier for users to look for a huge range of content, and it might also give a new approach to the search considerations for the brands that are working to enhance their Instagram performance. For example, earlier you had to type in the exact hashtags so as to get the related searches to get into the channels. Now, you don’t need to put every relevant hashtag to enhance the visibility, as the terms in your caption will be enough to help people find your content.
It is therefore somewhat limited. As per Instagram, the keyword searches will be “limited to general interest topics and keywords that are within Instagram’s community guidelines”. It will also showcase the most related matches to every user on the basis of the algorithm calculations. So it is not exactly pure keyword searching and also there are qualifiers that play role in content display. Instagram search update as of now available in English to all the users in Canada, the U.S., U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland, starting today.
