Uber has initiated talks with multiple state governments to allow bike-taxis on their roads to expand its upcoming uberMOTO service in more cities in India. UberMOTO, introduced in India about a year ago, is operational in seven cities recently launching in Noida and Ghaziabad. It is set to move to cities of Punjab this week.
What Uber executives said
“We are in talks with multiple states that are evaluating bike-sharing. There will be a bunch of more cities (where the bike-taxi service) will go live by the end of this year,” said Prabhjeet Singh GM, North India.
About UberMOTO
UberMOTO is currently present in Hyderabad, Jaipur, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ahmedabad, Noida and Ghaziabad and has completed two million trips within a year, its lower fares attracting the commuters.
Ola vs Uber
Uber recently invested Rs 52 crore into its India business but it is unclear how much of this money would be used to scale up uberMOTO. Ola raised $50 million last month in India.
