From the day, Google has announced about passage indexing many SEO Specialists thinks that it will look different in the search results. According to Danny Sullivan, it will not look any different from the normal search results.
Very specific searches can be the hardest to get right since sometimes the single sentence that answers your question might be buried deep in a web page. We’ve recently made a breakthrough in ranking and are now able to not just index web pages, but individual passages from the pages. By better understanding the relevancy of specific passages, not just the overall page, we can find that needle-in-a-haystack information you’re looking for. This technology will improve 7 percent of search queries across all languages as we roll it out globally.

According to Google, the right-hand side one i.e passage indexing is much more relevant to the user for any query than the normal indexing.
Danny Sullivan stated that passage indexing is entirely about ranking. Passage ranking will appear as normal. The only difference is now Google is able to rank more pages. This happens because Google can now understand the content more precisely and deeply of longer web pages.
“Passage indexing is not live yet and won’t be in 2020”
