The second largest E-Commerce player in India, Amazon has witnessed spike in fake orders that came through its partner Vakrangee, which assists shopping in rural areas. All these orders are cash on delivery.

Fake Orders Making look Festive Sale Higher

While Amazon was attempting to close the investigation soon, the festive sale rush could delay the process. E-commerce companies have seen about 10-15% of their orders getting cancelled or returned but these fake orders have make the festive sale look higher in numbers.

Vakrangee’s Project Udan

Vakrangee is one of the accomplices of Amazon for helping shopping. To tap the rural market, the Seattle-based organization’s neighborhood arm has been running a project called Udaan where it accomplices with shops and private companies to enable individuals to buy on Amazon.

Orders Cancelled from Udan

“For Diwali sales, we increased our network from 2,000 to 12,000 stores and deployed multiple product and marketing inputs to drive awareness and communication about the programme. This introduced lot of new customers for the first time to online commerce. However, orders received at Udaan stores were well beyond our estimates, but about 22 orders were cancelled over the weekend across three sellers,” an Amazon spokesperson said in an emailed response.

Suffering Financially due to Low Credibility of COD orders

“Sellers are being made to suffer financially due to low credibility of COD orders in e-commerce marketplaces. If marketplaces want to charge sellers for returns, then the system should be transparent and accommodate the feedback of sellers who are losing money due to such instances.” Said another top seller on the platform.
