Scribd’s mission is to change the way the world reads by providing people with unparalleled access to the world’s best content.”

Recommendation – Linkedin Facing Issue With API In Sharing Display Images

The deal includes all the users of SlideShare, content uploaded, hosting tools, and the full library of presentations and documents. This means not even a single account will be removed and users’ content is safe.

LinkedIn said Goodbye to SlideShare

“LinkedIn acquired SlideShare in May 2012 at a time when it was becoming clear that professionals were using LinkedIn for more than making professional connections.

Over the last eight years, the SlideShare team, product, and community has helped shape the content experience on LinkedIn.

We’ve incorporated the ability to upload, share, and discuss documents on LinkedIn.”

Scribd On Acquiring SlideShare

The deal will add 40 million more documents to its library, which already includes 100 million documents. These documents include professional work and documents uploaded by users.

Trip Adler Stated on this

“Our acquisition of SlideShare is a major step towards creating the world’s largest digital library.

Scribd has accumulated a unique collection of user-generated and professional content that we make available to our readers via personalized recommendations, and the addition of presentations from the SlideShare community advances our vision.

It allows us to continue diversifying our offering while driving even more readers to the books, audiobooks, magazines, and other professionally published works in our digital library

The deal is effective from today, however, Scribd will takeover operation from 24th September. After 24th September, users will be able to use SlideShare on slideshare.net and the mobile app.

More Details For Users

For the new users, Scribd will provide subscription service for $9.99 per month. Users will able to access the full library. However, SlideShare will be free of cost for the users.

  • Current SlideShare users must know some of these details:
  • Content uploaded to SlideShare can only be viewed on SlideShare.
  • Presentations cannot be accessed on Scribd.
  • A subscription to Scribd is not necessary to continue using SlideShare.
  • SlideShare accounts cannot be used on Scribd.

It seems like both sites will work independently, as according to SlideShare one who is not interested in using Scribd will not be forced to use it.
