Google’s latest initiative will display videos of several celebrities as answering the commonly asked questions about them.

 

How will this work?

When a user conducts a search on Google, he will get an option to view the video response from celebrity which will expand to the vertical full screen. This will no doubt increase more engagement as the user will be interested in learning about the responses from their favourite stars.

 

About vertical format

Though many video creators are against this format, a research by MOVR (Mobile Overview Report) has suggested that users feel comfortable in viewing the video like they handle the phone i.e. vertically for about 94% of the time.

 

More space for innovation

Though the initial stage of this feature includes the celebrities answering the query of the search result, for the future it will become relevant for business information. Recently, Google has also introduced ‘Google My Business’ posts, small and micro-blogs that appear along with the search result. With the addition of video, Google will create online hubs for business, which will provide more value to them as it is the dominant search engine.

 

The Stiff Competition

Facebook is giving more trouble to Google on the search front with the social networking platform giving out 2 billion searches per day. Pinterest is also coming up with various discovery options for an enhanced search experience. Even Google with its Google+ is giving a tough front in the social space.
