Reddit had launched a new ad unit that is similar to Twitter’s takeover ads in the trending section. Trending takeover ads allow brands the opportunity to be displayed in the Reddit’s Popular feed.

Reddit claims that its Popular feed and Search tab are the two most frequently visited sections.

Duration and Positioning

Similar to Twitter’s takeover ads, a trending takeover has a campaign duration of 24 hours. It is placed on the second slot of the Trending Today module on the Reddit’s popular feed and on the second slot of the Trending Today drop- down in Reddit’s search tab.

After clicking on a Trending Takeover ad the users will be redirected to a landing page displaying posts, conversations, and communities relevant to advertisers’ keywords.

Test Results

Results have shown a click-through rate two times greater as compared to the industry standard for social platforms in the beta testing done for Trending Takeovers with 15 partners. Also, Brands were receiving video views with a completion rate four times more than the Reddit’s promoted posts.
