A lot has happened since Snapchat declared that it was locking President Trump’s Snapchat account last week. But after the permanent ban from Twitter as well as temporary bans from his Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube accounts, Snapchat has announced that it will make its ban of the President’s Snapchat account permanent.
Though Snapchat gave Trump campaign an effective platform in order to target a younger audience who are active on the service, a permanent ban will impact his future business and political goals as he will be removed from major social media platforms. Trump being banned on social platforms followed riots last week at the U.S. Capitol by a pro-Trump mob which was encouraged by the President himself. Since then, a lot of companies and social media platforms have restricted Trump’s presence in his last days as President and beyond.
Statement By Snapchat
Last week we announced an indefinite suspension of President Trump’s Snapchat account, and have been assessing what long term action is in the best interest of our Snapchat community. In the interest of public safety, and based on his attempts to spread misinformation, hate speech, and incite violence, which are clear violations of our guidelines, we have made the decision to permanently terminate his account.
Snapchat states that it made the final decision in consideration of the repeated attempted violations of its community guidelines that had been made over the past several months by the President’s account.
