Peer-to-peer ride sharing, food delivery and transportation company Uber is planning to start its autorickshaw services in Chennai city. Uber, which earlier planned expansion of its engineering team in India, for the first time is making its entry into the city’s autorickshaw category, dominated by its Bengaluru-based rival Ola. Ola, which earlier launched its cab services in Perth, Australia, has recently restarted its autorickshaw services in Bengaluru and Pune, two years after shutting down the offering in March 2016.

Planning an Affordable and Convenient Ride

“At Uber, we continuously evaluate products needs to ensure that we are able to provide the most efficient, affordable and convenient ride for individuals, everywhere. Autorickshaws are ubiquitous with mobility options in many Indian cities; we are excited to expand transportation choices for our riders with the launch of ‘AUTO’ in Bengaluru, Pune and now, in Chennai.” Said an Uber spokesperson.
